His father was lawyer and educator, Wentworth Earl Miller II, who studied at Oxford on a Rhodes Scholarship. His mother, Joy Marie Palm-Miller, was a special education teacher. He and his father have African-American, Jamaican, German and Russian ancestry, and his mother has Dutch / French, Swedish, Lebanese / Syrian, Austrian and Rusyn roots.
Miller showed early academic ability. He excelled in high school and joined the AV club and school newspaper. This well-roundedness continued at Princeton University where he graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor’s in English Literature. Ivy League life wasn’t all textbooks, though.
