Saving Haiti with Hemp

Iv'e spent all morning watching footage of this horrific incident. These people have suffered and lost everything in a matter of seconds. Homes, churches, and hospitals crushed. Haiti needs to be completely re-built, this will cost millions upon millions. Already many countries have sent supplies and money to help in any way that they can, but will this be enough?

Before the quake over 80% of Haiti people are living underneath the poverty line. 78% of the population live on 2$ a day, its a very poor country. Due to the recent deforestation, their forests have been cut down, leaving them with little building materials, and fuel. What could REALLY save these people?

Send them hemp seeds. With it they can re-build stronger homes, bridges, feed the hungry,  and clothe the unclothed. If Haiti were to grow hemp, they could sell it to the world! Hemp production would provide thousands of jobs, and money to a country that really needs it...

I have seen someone suggest that they use HempCrete to rebuild (hemp concrete).

A hemp seed donation program (or something) would be a great thing to set up.

Seems you would need reliable contacts in each participating country to distribute the hemp seeds. Perhaps one of the current humanity groups would accept hemp seed as a donation to countries that are in serious need.

I have announced that any revenue generated by my hemp shopping portal http://thehempcloud.com during January 2010 will be rounded up to the nearest $10 and donated to Haiti relief. Another way hemp can help those in need. smilies/wink.gif

As I watched the news about the Haiti Earthquake, the first thing I thought about was utilizing hemp to assist the people of Haiti. Hemp seed donation could be a great start. But there would need to be much more support than just donations. Maybe the next step has to be helping set up co-op hemp farms, and nonprofits that would help the people learn to use and process hemp.

If you are serious about this project, I would love to team up.

Were working on getting donations from hemp seed suppliers, and hopefully a benefit show of some sort will be arranged! Believe me all this has been running through my mind since the earthquake. The faster we can get the support, the faster we can get this going. If you are interested in getting involved join our Hemp for Haiti groups here on ajnag, or facebook, and remember to spread the word!

The term ‘Hemp for Haiti’ has been haunting me for years. We say don’t fix what aint broke, well, Haiti is broke—big time. It has long suffered a perfect storm of ecological, sociological and economic disaster. The earthquake is just the latest chapter and brings an extraordinary opportunity to demonstrate the value of what should be the worlds most useful crop. Everyone who believes we could build a greener, better world with Industrial Hemp, or wants to promote and develop its myriad uses has, in Haiti, the perfect demonstration project, to wit: Haiti is isolated, devastated and desperate. Virtually every aspect of its society needs to be re-built from scratch. It has nothing to work with but a battered, malnourished, impoverished people which has been cut off from its traditional means of production and crammed into an unsustainable ghetto, and an empty ruined landscape of unproductive soil, pitiful infrastructure, and the worst housing in the Western Hemisphere. The cultivation and utilization of Industrial Hemp can address virtually all of the extraordinary range of problems. No other resource can provide so many interactive benefits, and the success of its application will jump start awareness throughout the world of the tremendous opportunities this crop offers our planet. Everyone who grows, processes, manufactures, studies, or promotes Industrial Hemp should jump on the opportunities to participate, as should everyone who wants to relieve the long term suffering, and manifest the possibility of National redemption (as we will certainly need such an example in the future). Next: Industrial Hemp and the Haitian People. Comments welcome. Thanks for getting me started.

My passions and dreams for saving economies thru hemp production is fairly recent so forgive my ignorance to the more knowledgable. Hemp production is a sleeping giant and I do not how something so common sense can be ignored. Can hemp seeds be brought to Haiti? My mother is in Bondeau Haiti now and will remain for the next couple of weeks. google:Anita Thorstad Bondeau Haiti and her writings of her experiences will come up. She has brought herb seeds to start gardens for cooking. Can she use the land in Bondeau to plant hemp seeds? Can she bring hempseeds in her suitcase from the US and fly to Haiti?
